Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why assist the learner driver when he/she is taking lessons with and ADI?
Many Learners don’t remember most of the information soon after their lesson is over with an ADI. So often the learner needs to revise the previous lesson and start all over again in the next lesson and often end up practicing the same topic and skills.
Learners need time to practice the skills learned in their lesson(s) with an ADI. Assistants familiar with professional skills & approaches through our ATLD course can be very effective for learner drivers doing the homework properly.
Will this course give the attendees a qualification like an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor)?
No. Most of our ADIs have years of experience instructing learner drivers which no one can achieve with 8 hours online course and two hours of observation of a practical driving lesson.
However, this course is a unique opportunity to get to know and understand the professional approaches and techniques and the rationale behind the present day driving industry based on DVSA requirements. This course will also give enough knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence to those who want to assist their loved ones effectively.
To encourage our "Assistants" we can also inform you that just after completing 40 hours of basic training, the trainee driving instructors are allowed to apply for a provisional license to give paid driving lessons for up to 6 months. Within those six months they can have up to 3 attempts to pass their final test to become fully qualified instructors.
Why Assistant and not Supervisor?
We believe in progressive and horizontal relationship between the learner and the assistant. Every assistant must have a compassionate heart towards the learner. So the learners develop their driving skills joyfully and not dreading each session. You must have the attitude and behave like an effective team member where you the assistant is there to fully support the learner to become a safe, skilful and confident driver. However, the assistant must help with the learners driving needs and not their (unrealistic) wishes.
What other benefit an assistant can have by doing the 8 hours ATLD Course?
Once you have completed our ATLD Course you will be eligible to sit with any of our ADIs for two hours of lessons at once or at two different hours (whatever time is mutually agreed) providing you bring your paid learner driver, to be able to see things first hand. This window will remain open for 90 days after the completion of the ATLD Course.

Is having dual controls required to teach a learner driver?
Dual control fitted isn’t a legal requirement. However, if you have more than one family members or friends who are going to be practicing in the same car then it would really be worth getting them installed (1- Extra Brake & Clutch pedals / Brake pedal only for automatic cars). It's like a safety net for everyone.
